Rentie started with a simple observation from the UPES campus belt: thousands of students need wheels every day, the shops that rent them are metres away, and yet the whole experience runs on phone calls, cash memory, and trust with no receipts. The shops deserved better tools. The riders deserved fewer surprises. Rentie is the layer in between.
What Rentie actually is
Rentie is a marketplace, not a garage. We don't own scooters, Dehradun's rental shops do, and they're good at it. What we build is everything around the vehicle: verified listings with live availability, fares computed by the platform from each shop's published rate card, OTP-verified bookings with a recorded booking advance, QR digital tickets, and a receipt on WhatsApp after every ride. The shop keeps its walk-in rates; you get the paper trail.
What "verified" means here
Vetted before listing
A shop goes live on Rentie only after we've confirmed it's a real business with a real fleet and a commitment to honoring booked fares. No drop-shipped listings, no phantom vehicles.
Serviced, condition-logged fleets
Partner shops log vehicle condition between rentals, and you do a joint inspection at pickup, so "that scratch was already there" is settled before you ride, not argued after.
Fares a human can't fudge
Prices come from the shop's published rate card and are computed by the platform. The rate card you see is the rate you pay, no tourist pricing, no counter surprises.
Everything on the record
Your advance is captured through Razorpay against your booking. Your ticket is a signed QR. Your receipt lands on WhatsApp. If something goes wrong, there's a record to fix it with.
Built for students first
Rentie grew up around UPES Bidholi and Kandoli, and it shows in the details: hourly rentals from ₹80 that beat auto fares, a fleet of forgiving 125cc scooters for new riders (see the fleet), monthly terms for semester stays, and a booking flow that works between classes. Travellers get the same machinery, most riders heading to Mussoorie or Rishikesh pick up in Dehradun, where the fleets are.
What we believe
- checkTransparency is a feature, not a promise. Prices, cancellation terms, and reviews are on the page before you pay, enforced by software, not goodwill.
- checkLocal shops are the backbone. Rentie succeeds only when Dehradun's shops earn more with less chaos, so the whole platform is built around their occupancy, their rate cards, and their rules.
- checkSafety isn't optional. Helmets ship with every ride, licences are non-negotiable, and our safety guidelines are written for these exact roads.
