The two things
1 · Valid driving licence
The class must match the vehicle (table below). Original with you at pickup, physical or DigiLocker. Expired or learner's licences don't qualify for solo rides.
2 · One photo ID
Aadhaar or your college ID, students, the college card also speeds up verification. The shop checks the original and may keep a photocopy or photo for the rental's duration.

What shops may do, and what they may not
- checkMay: verify originals, photograph/photocopy your DL and ID, hold the copy until return.
- checkShould not: demand your original Aadhaar as hostage. On Rentie the reservation is secured by the recorded booking advance, not your identity documents, more on that in deposits, explained.
Special cases
International visitors
A valid foreign licence for the right vehicle class, ideally with an International Driving Permit (IDP), plus your passport as photo ID. Same helmet and traffic rules as everyone.
DigiLocker & mParivahan
Digital DL copies in DigiLocker/mParivahan are legally valid across India. Checkpoints accept them; carrying the physical card is still the friction-free option.
Documents FAQs
Can I rent a bike in Dehradun without a driving licence?
No, and be suspicious of anyone who says yes. Riding unlicensed is illegal, voids any insurance position in an accident, and puts both you and the shop at real legal risk. Rentie partner shops verify licences at pickup, every time.
Is Aadhaar mandatory?
No, you need ONE photo ID alongside your licence, and a college ID works fine for students. Aadhaar is simply the most common choice.
Can my friend ride on my documents?
No. The person who booked and showed the licence is the only person who rides. A friend riding on your booking is unlicensed as far as the law and any accident claim are concerned.
Is a DigiLocker licence accepted?
Yes, DigiLocker and mParivahan digital copies of your DL are legally valid across India. Carrying the physical original is still the smoothest experience at checkpoints.
I'm under 18 with a 50cc licence, can I rent?
No. Rental fleets are 110cc+, which requires the full two-wheeler licence classes available at 18. There's no workaround on this one.
