"There's nothing to do here" is a lie told by people without wheels. Within an hour of the UPES gates sits a genuinely absurd amount of Uttarakhand, rivers, ridges, monasteries, colonial forests, bazaars. Here's the hit list, ordered roughly by distance from the Bidholi campus.

Close (under 30 minutes)

1 · The campus-road sunset points. The Bidholi–Kandoli ridge itself, golden hour. Free, five minutes away, criminally underrated.
2 · Nanda Ki Chowki dhaba row. The junction's parathas have ended more study sessions than winter break.
3 · Premnagar market. Repairs, tailors, street food, everything-shops, the errand loop that makes a scooty pay for itself.

The city hour (30–50 minutes)

4 · Forest Research Institute (FRI). The most beautiful campus in India isn't yours, sorry, colonial brick colonnades, museums, and lawns from another century. Nominal entry fee.
5 · Tapkeshwar Temple. A cave shrine on a stream where water drips onto the shivling year-round.
6 · Paltan Bazaar + Clock Tower. Park once, walk the whole chaotic artery, momos to sneakers to spice shops.
7 · Rajpur Road cafe stretch. The evening crawl, the cafe guide maps it zone by zone.
8 · Khalanga War Memorial. A quiet forest ridge with an 1814 story most locals don't know.

The classics (45–75 minutes)

9 · Sahastradhara. Sulphur springs and terraced pools, go early on weekends, it fills by noon.
10 · Robber's Cave (Guchhupani). Wade through a river inside a gorge. Rubber slippers, waterproof your phone.
11 · Maldevta. The soft riverside picnic default, maggi points, shallow water, zero planning needed.
12 · Mindrolling Monastery, Clement Town. One of the largest Buddhist stupas anywhere, gardens included, and the calmest hour available this close to a city.
13 · Lachhiwala nature park. Forest pools on the Haridwar road, the swim-adjacent option.

The ones that need a full tank

14 · Mussoorie. Obviously. ~1.5 hours of hairpins deserving their own preparation, read the trip guide first.
15 · Rishikesh. Flat, easy, and completely different air, ghats, bridges and the east-bank cafes.

Logistics, briefly

An hourly Access 125 (from ₹80) covers items 1–3; a full day (₹700) covers anything on this list. Helmets for both riders, licence in pocket, and the monsoon/fog notes if the season applies. That's it, go collect the list.
